Baby P Lodger Wins Appeal
Posted by admin on October 28th, 2009One of the trio behind bars over the death of Baby P won an appeal yesterday against an order that he must serve an indefinite prison sentence.
In may an Old Bailey judge imposed an indeterminate sentence on Owen for public protection with a minimum term of three years. Owen could have applied for parole after the three years.
Tim Roberts QC appearing for Owen said that ‘an indefinite tere was wrong in principal as there was no evidence that he posed a significant risk of serious harm to others in the future.
Owen was jailed along with Baby Peter’s ’s mother Tracy Connelly, and her boyfriend Steven Barket for causing or allowing Peter’s death.
Owen, Barker’s brother, had been staying at Peter’s home with his 15 year old girlfriend.
It emerged on Monday that Peter’s mother who was jailed indefinitely with a minimum term of five years, had dropped an appeal bid against her sentence which was expected to be heard yesterday along with Owen’s case..
Baby P – Peter Connelly – was found dead in a blood spattered cot in August 2007. The baby had more than 50 injuries
