Recently I came across an article which said that M.I.A. was calling her new son ‘Ickitt’ thankfully that’s not the case, M.I.A has since set the record straight over the name and said he is not been called ‘Ickitt’ as some journals had suggested but is been called ‘Ikyhd’.

Now that’s cleared up I thought I’d take a look at the level of weirdness that celebrities go to when naming their children. If we start with ‘Ikyhd’ that sits next to increasingly normalised celebrity ‘nature’ names like Lark, Bluebell, Apple, Puma, Willow and Tiger Lily. It’s unique but it’s not totally insane and I’m sure the word has an obvious resonance for M.I.A and her fiancé.

But now here are some that take the biscuit. Imagine giving a child a name like these:

1. Audio Science

That’s the tag actress Shannyn Sossamon gave her child – don’t ask.

2. Moxie CrimeFighter. When comedian Penn Jilette landed her child with this name she explained: “We chose her middle name because when she’s pulled over for speeding she can say, ‘But officer, we’re on the same side. My middle name is CrimeFighter’”.

3. Personally Sylvester Stallone doesn’t do much for me and even less since he named his son “Sage Moonblood.”

4. Sarah Palin, remember her child will it’s named ‘Track.’ Palin’s husband explained the origin of the name in an interview with People: “Sarah’s parents were coaches and the whole family was involved in track and I was an athlete in high school, so with our first-born, I was, like, ‘Track!’

5. ‘Moon Unit’ may seem bad enough for any young lady growing up – that’s what Frank Zappa called his daughter and just to be sure his son was not left out he called him ‘Dweezil.’

6. Star of My Name Is Earl, Jason Lee, who is also a leading member of the Church of Scientology decided to calle his son ‘Pilot Inspektor.’

7. ‘Jermajesty’. Sounds a bit like a Kings fungal infection. Wonder if Jermaine Jackson thought about that when he named his son?

8. ‘Memphis Eve.’ Now Bono I like and while he may be a fantastic musican when it comes to names, he should buy a good name book. Still I suppose ‘Memphis Eve.’ is not as weird as some of the names above.

9. ‘Kal-El Coppola’. Are you a Superman fan Nicholas Cage seems to be his son is named after Superman. I want to see a comic book where Kal-El and his wingman Pilot Inspektor battle Sage Moonblood for the love of Moon Unit. Perhaps the next entry could direct..

10. ‘Camera’. Well it’s not that way out, and I had to pick a number ten. Father Arthur Ashe’s wife Jeanne Moutoussamy is a photographer. I guess that almost makes sense.
